My name is Blanca Jano, and I am a painter based in Subotica, Serbia. Born in 1998, I discovered painting in my teenage years, and it has since become an inseparable part of my life. I earned my degree in Classical Painting in 2021 and also hold a master’s degree in Business Economics.
Throughout my artistic journey, I have been drawn to the complexity of human emotion. My oil-painted portraits serve as windows into deep, often unspoken feelings—intimate, intense, and sometimes unsettling. The individuals I paint are more than subjects; through my perception, they become part of my world, their emotions blending with my own.
Color is central to my work, not merely as an aesthetic choice but as a symbolic force that defines mood and meaning. I layer glazes, leave parts of the canvas exposed, and use visible brushstrokes to emphasize the tension between what is revealed and what remains hidden. These techniques reflect the layers of human experience—how emotions surface, retreat, and transform over time.
I often paint people I know, building a connection that allows me to capture both their unique traits and something more universal. A glance, a posture, the way light moves across their features—all of these details hold weight, revealing the complexity of emotions that are often concealed in everyday life. My goal is to create a shared emotional space, where viewers can recognize parts of themselves in the figures I depict.
In addition to my personal artistic practice, I lead community painting workshops for retirees and children, fostering creativity, self-expression, and social connection to combat loneliness.
